Our Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Broomfield Coffee, all in one place.

My Order

Can I cancel or change my order once it's been placed?

Once your order has been placed, it moves straight into our roasting and dispatch process, so unfortunately we're unable to cancel or amend it, in line with our Terms and Conditions. Please do double check your basket and delivery details carefully before checking out. If there's ever a genuine error on our end, get in touch and we'll sort it out.

How long will my order take to arrive?

We aim to dispatch all orders within 2 business days of being placed. If you've ordered coffee alongside brewing equipment or as part of a bundle, everything will ship together, timed around our roasting schedule.

Can I track my order?

Yes. Once your order has shipped, you'll receive an email with a tracking link. You can also find your tracking details by logging into your account and checking Order History.

A couple of things to bear in mind:

  • Tracking updates can lag if the carrier hasn't scanned the parcel yet.
  • It's completely normal for tracking to show little movement until the day of delivery.

If you haven't seen any tracking updates 7 business days after dispatch, email us at info@broomfieldcoffee.co.uk and we'll look into it for you.

What do I do if part of my order is missing?

We're sorry to hear that. Please email us at info@broomfieldcoffee.co.uk with your order number, and a photo of what you did receive if possible, as it really helps us get to the bottom of it quickly.

Shipping & Delivery

Do you have free shipping?

Yes, we offer free shipping on all subscription orders, and on any UK order over £50.

Do you ship internationally?

Not currently, but it's something we're considering for the future.

Returns & Refunds

Can I return my coffee if I don't like it or ordered the wrong thing?

As coffee is a fresh, perishable product roasted to order, every bag is prepared and packed specifically for you, so we're unable to guarantee its condition once it's left us. Our approach to returns is set out in full in our Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy, which we'd always recommend having a read through before ordering.

If there's been an error with your order, please contact us at info@broomfieldcoffee.co.uk as soon as possible after receiving it. The sooner you get in touch, the more likely we are able to find a suitable solution.

And if the taste just isn't to your liking, our coffee team is always happy to help you find something better suited to your preferences for next time.

Subscriptions

Do you offer coffee subscriptions?

Yes, visit our Subscriptions page for full details on plans, frequency, and pricing.

How does billing work?

Simply sign up for the subscription plan of your choice and we'll take care of the rest. Payment is taken shortly before each order is dispatched.

When will I be charged?

You'll be charged automatically based on your selected delivery frequency, whether that's weekly, fortnightly, or monthly.

How do I manage my subscription?

Log in to your account and use the Manage Subscription option to access the customer portal.

If you're having trouble logging in, try resetting your password or creating an account, as guest checkouts don't automatically create one for you.

How do I amend or cancel my subscription?

You can manage your subscription any time by logging into your account online. From there you can update your grind, quantity, delivery frequency, or address, or cancel altogether.

To give our roasting and logistics team enough time to plan ahead, cancellations require 30 days' notice. This means your next scheduled delivery (and payment) will still go ahead as planned, and your subscription will end after that. Once it's ended, you won't be charged for or sent any further deliveries.

Can I change my coffee, grind, or delivery schedule?

Yes. All of this can be done in your subscription portal, where you can swap your coffee, update your grind size, change your delivery frequency, or reschedule an upcoming order.

Can I update my billing or delivery details?

Yes. You can update your payment method in the Billing Information section of your account.

To change your delivery address, use the subscription management area rather than your main account details, as these are managed separately.

Can I add extra coffee to my subscription?

Yes, log into your account, go to Manage Subscriptions, select the subscription you'd like to edit, and add any additional products you fancy. Confirm the changes and they'll be included in your next order.

Can I choose my own coffee, or have you recommend one?

Both! If you know what you like, you're welcome to choose your own coffee for your subscription via our Shop Coffee page. If you'd rather leave it to us, take our Coffee Quiz and we'll recommend the best match for your taste.

How frequently can I receive deliveries?

You can choose weekly, fortnightly, three-weekly, or four-weekly deliveries, whatever suits how much coffee you get through.

Coffee & Brewing

How can I brew my coffee?

All our subscription plans let you tailor your order to your preferred brewing method. Choose whole bean if you grind your own, or select a grind option: fine for espresso, medium for filter, and coarse for cafetière. That way, your coffee always arrives ready for how you actually make it. Head to our Subscriptions page to get started.

When was your coffee roasted?

We roast Monday to Friday every week. Your coffee will typically have been roasted just a few days before it's dispatched, so it reaches you at its freshest.

What grind size do I need?

This depends on your brewing method: fine for espresso, medium for filter, and coarse for cafetière. If you want full control over freshness and grind, we'd always recommend buying whole bean and grinding at home just before you brew.

Can you grind the coffee for me?

Yes, just select your preferred grind (espresso, filter, cafetière, etc.) from the drop-down menu when you order. Shop our coffee to see it in action.

Can I get a grind that isn't listed as an option?

Yes, we're happy to do a custom grind, but you'll need to contact us directly to arrange it. Espresso grinds in particular can be tricky to dial in perfectly, but we'll always do our best.

What coffee should I choose for espresso?

Any of our coffees can be enjoyed as an espresso. It really comes down to which flavour profile you fancy, rather than one fixed "espresso coffee." Simply select the espresso grind option when you order and you're good to go. Browse our full range on the Shop Coffee page, or take our Coffee Quiz if you'd like a recommendation.

What coffee should I choose for filter?

The same applies here: all of our coffees work well as a filter brew. Just choose the medium/filter grind at checkout and pick whichever coffee's tasting notes appeal to you most. Have a browse of our Shop Coffee page to compare tasting notes.

Can I use any of your coffees for my brew method?

Yes. Our whole range is suited to whatever way you like to brew: espresso, filter, cafetière, and beyond. It's the grind that changes, not the coffee. Select your preferred grind at checkout and any coffee in our range will work. Take a look at our Shop Coffee page to find your next bag.

Are your pods compatible with Nespresso machines?

Yes, our pods are compatible with all standard Nespresso machines.

How should I store pods?

Store pods in a cool, dark place in an airtight container for best freshness.

Why does your coffee range keep changing?

Coffee is a seasonal crop, with one or two harvests a year depending on the country of origin. We buy small lots from many different farms, so as one coffee sells out, we move on to the next. Some of the farms we work with are very small, which means those coffees change hands more often.

How should I store my coffee?

Keep it in an airtight container at room temperature, away from direct sunlight. Avoid storing it in the fridge or freezer, as this can affect freshness.

Will my coffee go off?

Coffee doesn't spoil as such if kept dry, but it will gradually lose flavour over time. For the best taste, we'd recommend drinking it somewhere between one week and one month from the roast date, and within three months at the most.

How much coffee should I use for my brew method?

This varies by method, and there's plenty of guidance online for different brewers. As a starting point, we recommend around 24g for filter coffee and 18-22g for espresso, lattes, and flat whites, but do experiment to find the strength you enjoy most.

Is there a strength guide to your coffees?

Not as such. Strength really comes down to how much coffee and water you use, so it's worth adjusting to taste rather than following a fixed guide

Which is your most popular coffee?

All of our coffees have a loyal following, but each has its own distinct flavour profile. Check the tasting notes on each product page to find one that matches what you're after. Browse them all on our Shop Coffee page.

Is your coffee Arabica?

The majority of our range is Arabica, though we do stock a few Robusta options for those who want an extra kick.

Can coffee filter papers be composted?

Yes, they can.

Sustainability & Recycling

How do you buy your coffee?

We source and roast coffee from a range of origins, including single farms, estates, and cooperatives, and travel throughout the year to find new coffees to bring into our rang

Is your coffee organic?

Yes, we buy a selection of organic coffees.

Is your coffee Fairtrade?

We focus on roasting ethically and sustainably, and many of our coffees are certified Fairtrade, Organic, Rainforest Alliance, or sourced through Direct Trade relationships. These partnerships help ensure farmers get a fair price and support the communities that grow our coffee.

Are your coffee bags recyclable?

Yes. Our bags are LDPE4 recyclable, meaning they can go in with soft plastics/carrier bag recycling points at most large supermarkets (check with your local council to confirm collection). If you're local to us, you're also welcome to drop your used bags back with us and we'll make sure they're recycled properly.

Can I recycle coffee at home?

Yes, most used coffee grounds can go straight into your home compost or food waste collection where available, and your packaging can be recycled via soft plastics collection points or your local council's guidance.

Beyond composting, there's plenty else you can do with your spent grounds:

  • Garden fertiliser – sprinkle grounds around acid-loving plants like roses, hydrangeas, and blueberries to add nitrogen to the soil.
  • Natural deodoriser – leave a bowl of dried grounds in the fridge, freezer, or shoe rack to absorb odours.
  • Gentle exfoliant/face mask – mixed with a little coconut oil or yoghurt, used grounds make a natural body or face scrub (patch test first, as they can be quite abrasive for sensitive skin).
  • Pest deterrent – scattered around plants, grounds can help keep slugs, snails, and ants away from your beds.
  • Cleaning scrub – great for scouring pots, pans, and grills without scratching (avoid on delicate or non-stick surfaces).
  • Natural dye – grounds can be simmered to create a soft brown dye for fabric, paper, or Easter eggs.

A little goes a long way, so there's no need to feel like every last gram needs a use. Compost or food waste collection is always a great default.
