The Broomfield Flat White (~5 mins)
Here's a simple recipe to make a Broomfield Coffee Flat White using our popular Lemon Drizzle coffee beans from Honduras. We have all been involved in the long-running debate about where this drink originated from, Australia or New Zealand? Regardless of it's origin, this creamy coffee has taken the world by storm. It's simply a double espresso with heated, textured milk that's flat at the top (less foamy than a latte or cappuccino)
Ingredients
- Lemon drizzle coffee beans (freshly ground)
- Hot water (for brewing)
- Milk (whole, oat, or your choice, for steaming)
- Sweetener (optional, like sugar or honey)
Equipment
- Espresso machine or a pour-over setup
- Milk frother or steam wand
- Scale (optional, for precision)
- Coffee grinder
Instructions
-
Prepare the Coffee:
- Measure 18-20 grams of Lemon Drizzle coffee beans.
- Grind them to a fine espresso grind.
-
Brew the Espresso:
- If using an espresso machine, tamp the grounds evenly into the portafilter and brew a double shot (about 30-40ml).
- If using a pour-over method, brew using your preferred technique, aiming for a strong concentration.
-
Steam the Milk:
- Pour about 150ml of milk into a steaming pitcher.
- Use a steam wand to froth the milk until it reaches around 60-65°C (140-150°F), creating microfoam. Aim for a velvety texture by creating a whirlpool motion (Remember there should be no hissing sound or milk drops flying every where as this will lead to a thick milk texture).
-
Combine:
- Pour the brewed Lemon Drizzle espresso into a cup (150-170ml).
- Gently pour the steamed milk over the espresso, starting from the center and working your way out to create a nice shape.
-
Serve:
- Enjoy your Broomfield Flat White!
Tips
- Experiment with the milk-to-coffee ratio to find your perfect balance.
- Adjust the grind size if your espresso pulls too quickly or too slowly.
Enjoy your delicious flat white!
